Our Princess

This is our little princess Mia…we also call her Mimi.  She is a Pomeranian and she has been having random seizures for about 4 months now.  This morning, at 1:45, she had the mother of all seizures that I swear almost caused Rob and I to have heart attacks.  SCARIEST.THING.EVER.  It lasted about 5 or 6 minutes total, and she seemed to slowly come out of it.  She was very confused for some time after and walked around the living room in small circles for another 5 minutes or so.  Then around 5:45 she began having smaller “tremors” (term the vet used) that did not stop at all…they continued even after we arrived at the vet’s office when they opened.  Our vet (who we LOVE by the way!  He saw us immediately even though we didn’t have an appointment) checked her out and gave her a Valium injection to help bring her out of the seizure.  After spending the day there under observation, we were able to bring her home tonight with a prescription of Phenobarbital that will hopefully keep her from having any more seizures.

We have to take her back in 2 weeks for a check-up and then in a month for the first in a series of blood tests to monitor the levels of Phenobarb so that we get the dosage worked out for her.  It remains to be seen if she’ll have to take the meds forever, but we’ll do whatever we need to for our little princess!  She seems to be resting comfortably now, and we are hoping for an uneventful night!

Isn’t it amazing how God entrusts with us the care of his creatures, and they fill our hearts with such love and joy?  Our dogs and cats are just like children to us, and we are beyond thankful for them.  Feel better Mimi!  We love you!

  1. I, as a dog owner, and a passionate one, do know what you must be going through. Our little dog is our “daughter” and we treat her as such. We would do absolutely anything for her, when she is in need. You sound like you would do the same. Our thoughts are with you and hope that everything works out for you.

  6. I hope she’s feeling a lot better. I have a little shih tzu and I can’t imagine how I would feel if I were in that situation. My thoughts and prayers for her speedy recovery.

  7. Thank you so much everyone for the kind words and thoughts and prayers. Mimi is doing better. I had her with me all day at my office yesterday so I could keep an eye on her and she didn’t show any abnormal behavior. She loves taking her “medicine” because we hide it in a taste of peanut butter. 🙂
