Capture What Counts Photography

Photo Journey

Saw these red coneflowers growing along a fence line and had to stop and get a photo.

Happy New Year!

Wow…has it really been six months since I posted anything? Geez…time flies.

I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas and that 2015 is treating you well so far. We’ve been under the weather but not letting it get us down.

On the way home from a doctor visit yesterday, my daughter and I both noticed how amazing the sunset was. We decided to stop at the tracks and capture God’s gift. Taken with iPhone. There just aren’t words. 🙂

Heart of Gold

This rose is called “Heart of Gold.” One of my dear friends gave it to me for Mother’s Day. I love it.Heart of Gold 2

Know any Photographers in Kansas City, MO?

Hi All! Sorry I’ve been absent from posting photos. I’ve gotten into a new venture, and photography has taken a back seat. However, I’m hoping this new venture will eventually lead me to exotic places and I can then take photos and blog about my adventures. Stay tuned!  🙂

In the meantime though…do any of you know any photographers in Kansas City, MO? A dear friend of mine has a brother in Kansas City who recently got engaged, and they are looking for someone to do engagement photos. The wedding will be in Africa, so no package is needed, but they are looking for someone to document their journey thus far.

If you know of anyone in the area, I would really appreciate you letting me know!!

Hope 2014 is off to a great start for all of you!

The Walcott Covered Bridge

On our way to the senior photo shoot a couple weekends ago, we passed the Walcott Covered Bridge. We stopped to take some photos here before heading on to the farm.

Senior Pics

Last weekend I did a photo shoot for a high school senior. I have to say, it was probably the most fun photo shoot I’ve ever done. The family was just amazing, and so organized! They brought their own props and everything. Here are a couple of photos from the day.

I can’t take credit for the idea of this photo, Cody’s dad had this one all worked out. But I love how it came out!

Thanks again Cody, Lexie, Kim and Glenn. Macy and I had a great time!

I posted this pic to Facebook last night, and a friend of mine commented back that the word “komorebi” showed up on her news feed from a site called word porn. It means “sunlight that filters through the leaves of trees.”

My blogger friend Martina posted a similar picture today, which prompted me to go ahead and share mine as well. Hope you enjoy!

This post has nothing to do with my photo blog…but it made me seriously LOL (laugh out loud) when I watched it!! It’s the little things for me…I am so easily amused.

My friend Amber (check out her blog here!) shared this on her blog, and I just wanted to pass it along. It’s awesome! Enjoy!

Kentucky Special Olympics – Equestrian

A couple of weekends ago, my daughter Macy and I volunteered at the KY Special Olympics – Equestrian in Lexington, KY.  Macy has been volunteering at a stable that provides equitherapy for special needs people.  I am so proud of her, and so happy that she has found something she truly loves.

I was able to tag along at the Special Olympics and take some photos for the stables.  I’m not posting any photos of the riders out of respect for their privacy, but here is Macy with one of the horses, Brazo.

I was so blessed to have been a small part of this fabulous day.

#11/52 – Straight Lines

This past weekend, one of our good friends came for a visit, and we decided to take him to the Cincinnati Museum Center (also called Union Terminal, and known to some as the model for the Hall of Justice in DC Comics.)  Being at the Museum Center with two die-hard comic fans made the visit quite interesting.  🙂

There are lots of straight lines that make up the facade of the building.  This photo was taken with my iPhone and edited in Instagram.

I’ll be back eventually…

Just wanted to post a quick note since I haven’t posted a new photo in a long time.

I have been really busy and had a lot of things going on.  Then, last Sunday night while cooking dinner for my family, I dropped a kitchen knife off the counter.  The knife severed two tendons and cut two branches of an artery in my foot.  A trip to the ER and a surgery later, I am at home recovering.  I still have a week before I can even (hopefully!) go back to work.  Not sure if I will have to have physical therapy at some point or not…hoping not.

I would appreciate any prayers and or good thoughts you can send my way.  This has been a life changing event and I am really struggling with being so helpless and having to depend on other people.

I’m still trying to keep up with everyone’s blogs, and at least clicking the “like” button if I’m not commenting.  Thank you all for your continued support.  It means the world to me.

To leave you with at least a photo…we recently acquired another kitty that needed a home.  She stole my heart the minute I saw her, but this past week she has really been such a blessing to me.  I truly believe she was put here on earth to help me through this ordeal.  My days for now are confined to the couch with my leg elevated above my waist.  This little treasure, who we named Sophie, has been my constant companion.  Here she is today, napping with me.  🙂

#9/52 – Transportation

While sitting at the railroad crossing last night, waiting for the train to go by, I thought “there has to be a photo theme I can use for a shot of this train!”   Photo taken with iPhone.

#8/52 – On the Road

I have joined an exercise program called Couch to 5K.  I am hoping to eventually become a runner, and be able to complete a 5K running…not walking.  I have asthma, and with it being so cold here in KY still, it’s really hindering me.  And my calves have been really sore, but I keep at it.

I’ve been using the Nike+ Running app on my phone to keep track of my progress.  As you can see, I had to slow down a little after the first two days, but I’m building my speed back up.  I’m on the road

#7/52 – Curves

Macy and I spent the weekend at Lake Cumberland celebrating the 1 year birthday of baby Hanson!  We stayed at a dear friend’s house, and this is the view off her back deck.  Natural curves 🙂

#6/52 – Winter

We had a touch of winter today.  Snowed like crazy for a  couple of hours and then it all melted before it was time to leave work.  Just the way I like it!

#5/52 – Games

The past few days, I have grown slightly addicted to the game “What’s the Word” on my iPhone.  So addicted that I completed every level in the game, and now I have to wait for new levels to be added before I can play again.  Really not sure what I’m going to do with myself…

#3/52 – Off Center

This is my boy, Cullen.  Caught this off center shot while he was running and playing in the snow.

Honey comes in the cutest containers…

#1/52 – Reflections

Happy New Year everyone!  I have once again signed up to participate in the Photo Challenge through Elements Village.  You can follow all the participants here.

This year I will be taking photos with my iPhone as well as my camera.  This week’s photo was taken with my phone and edited in the app called Water My Photo.

2013 Project52 Coming Soon!

OK, I know I said I didn’t plan to do another project, but my fabulous friend Tammy has talked me into doing the Elements Village challenge again this year!

Head over to her blog if you’re interested in signing up!  She’s got all the details.

See you soon!

#52/52 – Christmas

Although I didn’t quite finish my Project52 this year, I want to let all of you know how much I appreciate your comments, support, encouragement, and just the fact that you follow my blog.  Words cannot express how thankful I am for all of you, and how much y’all mean to me!  I don’t plan to start another project in 2013, but I will continue to blog as time permits.

I wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas (or whatever you celebrate) and that 2013 will be prosperous and bring blessings and happiness for us all!

I leave you with this little Christmas cutie…
