Capturing Beauty

Thanks to my wonderful friend Tammy, I heard about Traci’s blog “Ordinary Inspirations”, and her Monday “Capturing Beauty” post.

I took this photo last fall, but it’s one of my favorites from my Project365.

Thank you Traci for sharing this with us!  I am super excited to link up with Traci for this post (and to find her blog!) so head on over there and check it out for yourself.

New Site!

After much prayer, consideration and encouragement…I now have a website!  Well, it’s still under construction, but it’s mine and I’m so excited!

www.capturewhatcounts.com  You can also check out my Facebook page or find me on Twitter.

I’d love for you to visit and of course, as always, comments/suggestions/criticism is welcome and appreciated.  Thank you!

On the Farm

I’ve been asked to photograph a wedding in January, and I have basically no experience photographing people.  Unless you count the dude at the river I posted back a few weeks…who had no clue I was taking his photo.  🙂  So…I have to get working on that!

Today, Macy helped a friend’s family at a county farm tour.  She looked so cute in her cowboy boots, I knew I had my first real people shot.  SOOC.

Easily Amused

Many of you may know that I am very easily amused.  Macy introduced me to Wordle.net tonight, and I have been playing ever since.  You should try it…but be warned!  It’s addictive.   🙂

Union Terminal

Cincinnati’s Union Terminal.  There were some kids playing in the fountain (where were their parents?) so I had to do some creative cropping and make some other minor adjustments.

Lost in Thought

I took this photo back in March when the Ohio River was well above flood stage in Cincinnati.  I liked the calmness of the guy against the motion of the water, and how he seemed to be lost in thought.

Paying it Forward

I just found out that my lovely new blog friend Amber, over at Freckles and Fences has nominated me for the Liebster Blog Award.  Thank you so much for this honor Amber!  My Project365 would never have been completed had it not been for the amazing people (that I now consider friends) that I met through photo blogging.

The Liebster Award started in Germany (Liebster translates into sweetheart or dearest) and the purpose of it is to bring attention to blogs that are “new” (less than 200 followers is considered new.)  So the blogger receiving the award links back to the blogger who awarded him/her, and tags 3-5 people that he/she wants to recognize.  The value behind this award is for us to get to know other bloggers who might not be well known, yet have a lot to share.

I’m not exactly sure how you tell the number of followers a blog has, so I hope I’m not breaking any rules with my picks, but here are my nominations:

A Slice of Life 2011 (Tammy is an amazing photographer and has been an amazing inspiration to me.)

Whitney T. Photography (Whitney is a great photographer while also raising awareness of organic living.  She is also solely responsible for encouraging me to create the Bonnie Gunkel Photography page on Facebook.)

Cathy Ross (Cathy is a fabulous photographer.  She has offered endless encouragement and advice to me, as well as sharing tips and ideas.)

DPixel (Pix is a wonderful photographer, and her blog posts are inspirational and thought provoking.)

There are several other blogs that I follow, so please check out the blogroll on my site.  Thank you again Amber for nominating me for the Liebster Award.  🙂

Geode

A few weekends ago, we visited my dear friend Kim and her husband Randy, and they took us to Lake Cumberland in southern KY.  Kim was showing us around some points of interest when she asked us if we’d ever seen geodes.  Of course we were like “what?”  So she took us to one of the boat ramps and we commenced to searching for these amazing rocks.  We found 7 that we brought home and I couldn’t wait to get the hammer out and see what was waiting inside them!  Among them, we found this beauty!  SOOC.

The kind of geodes found here in KY contain quartz crystals.  There are geodes that contain amethyst in other parts of the country.  Amethyst is my birthstone, and I’d really love to have one of THOSE geodes.  In case you find one somewhere.  Just sayin’.  🙂
