Day 365 – Not The End…

When I saw these railroad tracks, I knew immediately that I had the perfect image to represent the finishing of my Project365.  It is the end of this adventure, but just around the bend is another journey.

I have an idea in mind for another project, but I’m still working out the details.  I am looking forward to taking a break, but I’m not going to stop taking photos, and I’m not going to stop posting.  It just won’t be every day, at least for now.

The sense of pride and feeling of accomplishment I have is amazing…and surprising.  I never finish anything!  Maybe it’s because I never fully committed to doing a Project365 that I was actually able to complete it.  Whatever the reason, I’m so glad I did.

I want to sincerely thank all of you for coming to my blog every day, and leaving your comments and encouragement.  I have gained so many “friends” through this and I am so grateful to each and every one of you.  You all have given me support, reassurance, suggestions, advice, and inspiration.  I would not trade this experience for anything.  I hope you all will continue to follow me, and of course, I will definitely be keeping up with all of you.

Day 313 – I Hear the Train a Comin’

As much as I want to post another flower photo today, I’m going to do something different.  🙂

We had some hellacious storms roll through the N KY last night.  Thankfully we did not have any damage here, but a town very close to us had some severe damage.  When I got to work this morning, we had no electricity.  We sat around until 11:30 when my boss told my department we could go home.

I drove around looking for something to photograph, and decided to stop at the Erlanger Depot to see what was going on there.  I have no idea what the correct railroad lingo is, (I learned a lot about trains from watching “Unstoppable,” but apparently my brain did not retain any of it) but there was an engine that was pushing several cars down the track a few hundred feet and then pulling them back to where he started.  I was quite amused with this because to an “outsider,” it appeared that the engineer just couldn’t make up his mind what he wanted to do.  So I watched that for a few minutes and was just about to leave when I heard a train whistle in the distance.  Why yes, Folsom Prison Blues did start playing in my head.  How’d you know?  🙂

Day 223 – Lomo Train

We got a lot of snow here in the N KY today…I am beyond over snow…and cold…and winter period.  Today when Macy and I went out to grab lunch, I thought I’d be able to finally photograph something I have been thinking about for several weeks now.  Well, it didn’t work out exactly how I wanted, because too much snow had already fallen on the tracks.  But just as we were getting back in the car, along came this train, and I couldn’t resist a shot.  Used Lomo in Picnik for a little contrast.

Day 154 – Walkin’ the Tracks

As much as I love to photograph train tracks, I realized I had never actually walked down any, until I took this photo.  Of course I don’t recommend walking tracks in 3″ heels like I did…but that’s beside the point.  Anything for a photo, right?  🙂

Day 108 – Unknown Path

Today turned into a soul cleansing and purging day for me.  I forgave and I asked for forgiveness.  And hopefully, in the process, I repaired a friendship that had been left for ruin.  I walked down a path I was unsure of with only the prayer that God would be with me.  And He was.  And I am thankful.

These railroad tracks remind me of that path I took today.  You can see part of it…you know where you’re going.  But where you’ll end up is unknown…sometimes you have to just step out in faith.  And that’s what today was.  And hopefully, I will always feel as comfortable and as grateful as I do right now with the direction the path took.

And here it is in black and white, just because.  🙂

Day 100 – Makin’ Tracks

Today I went to one of the many sets of railroad tracks we have in my area.  Then I came home and played with the photos in Picnik, which is quickly becoming my new obsession.  I have three different versions of the photo because I had so much fun with it.  The first is the original, with just a little contrast added to bring dimension to the actual tracks (thanks for that tip Mindy!)  The second is the photo in b&w just because, and the third is the photo in “focal b&w”, and I think it gives new meaning to “light at the end of the tunnel.”

Day 53 – Train Tracks

Since starting this photo blog, I have become obsessed with train tracks.  I have several train trestles close to my house and I have been strategizing about what time of day would be best to take photos at them.  This morning, I feel like I missed the photo opportunity of a lifetime.  It was the perfect storm…early morning, foggy, and a train was slowly coming down the track from far away…the light of the engine glowing in the fog.  Problem is…this trestle is very narrow and there is barely enough room for two cars to pass, much less room for a person to stand there taking photographs.  And there was pretty much non-stop traffic coming from both ways.  I was so bummed.  But I tried to cheer myself up by going to another area of tracks I found and taking a photo of that.  It’s not nearly as cool, and not foggy, and there’s no train coming, but oh well.  Hopefully I will get another opportunity to get my dream photo.

After some feedback from Mindy, I played with this in Picasa and added some shadowing to better accentuate the tracks themselves.  (The contrast option didn’t seem to do anything)  Thanks for the suggestion, Min!  I really like the change!
